It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news that Charlie passed away on Thursday.

This newspaper clipping of Charlie & Arthur Duncan is from the 1972 Napa Town & Country Fairgrounds, where a life-long memory was created for him... and for me.  Almost 40 years later, I was able to locate Charlie, and we talked for hours about that fair, about our moms who were always backstage supporting us, about his amazing stories... about life.  And we talked about this picture, of which he has the 8x10 black & white, which he got signed by Mr. Duncan many years later.

At the end of our first phone conversation, he said, "I know our moms are looking down on us right now and smiling."

After he read the script, he graciously agreed to fly out to Rohnert Park and play himself in the movie. We talked. We laughed. We danced in the lobby during a break.

He had always been an amazing dancer and teacher, but he was also a genuinely kind, down-to-earth man who will be sorely missed and never forgotten by the many people whose lives he touched.  My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

His cameo at the end of the movie had always been poignant to me. It is even more so now.

I am just learning of Charlies passing. I knew him from the show DreamStreet in Las Vegas. So very sad to hear. Do you have any information on what happened? I know others that would want to have this information about his passing. Thank You for any information.

Hi Phillip,

Charlie passed due to complications during kidney surgery. There is a page for Charlie on Facebook (Charles William McGowan Memorial Site) where people have gathered to share their memories, pictures, stories, etc. I believe there are others from DreamStreet on that page. There is also a Celebration of Life being planned for San Jose, CA, in April this year.

The Facebook site is https://www.facebook.com/groups/1417571068458621/

I hope you'll join the Facebook group and share your stories. It was quite a shock to everyone, and sharing memories of Charlie seems to make everyone feel a little better.

Whenever someone dies, I always wonder where they will go. I am a firm believer that there is Heaven and Hell. However, just thinking about life after death scares me so much because what if everything we believed in was a lie? What if there is no other side? What do people do when they die? Do they get to recognize each up or down there? What really is the life after death? These are questions that keep me awake in the night.
